Today is the 100th anniversary of the day that Germany marched into Belgium – forcing Britain to defend Belgian neutrality and thus declare war and beginning the British Empire’s entry into World War I. I don’t think we could ever understand the scale of the war, the loss, and the resulting changes to world order and society.
