Thought of the Day/Commemorating WWI

Today is the 100th anniversary of the day that Germany marched into Belgium – forcing Britain to defend Belgian neutrality and thus declare war and beginning the British Empire’s entry into World War I. I don’t think we could ever understand the scale of the war, the loss, and the resulting changes to world order and society.

The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime.
Sir Edward Grey, Foreign Secretary

I read an interesting thought today that I thought I would share here: As we mark this 100 year anniversary, do we feel the world is safer as a result or indeed any safer period?

The Telegraph in the UK has been doing an interesting hour by hour breakdown of the events of August 4th and the preceding 3 days. Check it out here.

Wishing you the best of everything,
