]The legend of Savile Row has had a resurgence lately thanks to the beautiful morning suits seen at the Royal Wedding, Downton Abbey teaching us the difference between a tux and a dinner jacket, and the ever present James Bond.
However, the traditional practice is under threat. There are some very interesting documentaries on savile row available via quick search on youtube. In the meantime, here is a quick video detailing the threat of ready to wear and semi-bespoke boutiques moving to Savile Row for the prestige.
Other videos cover the threat of Abercrombie & Fitch and other non-traditional stores affecting the prestigious labels such as Henry Poole & Co (which served Winston Churchill & Napoleon III among others) due to changing clientele and increasing rent prices. Here is a clip of a different episode of which I would suggest watching the first 4-5 minutes.
If you want further information, there is a book out that I am dying to flip through:
Some aspects of luxury culture deserve to survive, and bespoke tailoring of Savile Row is one of them.
Wishing you the best of everything,
